Rod-Building Update and a Distressing Development

I’m posting a few photos from my latest rod work. I’ve been working on a 9′ 6wt fly rod for my sister-in-law, Gina. She needed a stronger rod for heading out West this year. The rod features a Struble nickel silver reel seat with burl madrone insert, nickel silver winding check, red-banded agate stripping [...]

Rod-Building Update

The nearly-completed handle on my Lamiglas Spring Creek fiberglass fly rod.

I currently have five fly rods in various stages of birth scattered across my rod working area. Most of these are to be gifts. One is for me, a 7’6″ 4wt Lamiglas fiberglass fly rod. It was about a year ago when [...]

Latest Rod Work and other Tidbits

Not bad at all for a first try. The next few photos document the process in abbreviated fashion. Continue reading First Rod Finished and Other Notes

BBQ and Fly Tying

I spent the weekend barbequing ribs with my father-in-law, tying flies, and worrying about who would become Alabama’s next head coach. Not a bad way to spend your time I guess. The ribs turned out well. I’m currently reading Howell Raines’ Fly Fishing Through the Midlife Crisis. At one point he mentions that he [...]
