I thought I’d kick off April Fool’s Day with another special deal on some fishing equipment. No trickeration involved. I promise.
For this second item, I had planned to offer an 8wt Cabela’s Stowaway fly rod with a decent reel and a fly line all for $50, but I ended up selling it to a close friend. So, to make it up to you, I’m offering the sweetest deal of the whole lot (at least I think it is). But it comes with a slight breakage of my own rules. I’m starting it off at a bit more than half price. Not much, but just a little because of the item’s value. Then after two days, if no one has picked it up, I’m taking off 25%, which will place it lower than half what you’d probably be able to find this item for any where else. There might be some going on ebay for as cheap as I’m offering this one, but if so I haven’t seen it.
Additionally, since I feel bad about that bass rod, I plan to build one in the future and offer it as one of our deals at 1/4 what I’d sell it for otherwise.
So, without further ado…
Item: Winston Boron II-MX 9′ 5wt 4-piece fly rod
Status: Available
Current Price: $400 $300 shipped – no $5 shipping charge this time
Description: This rod is just about brand new. I’ve had it out of the tube twice, once to admire it and once to take the photos below. I’ve never cast it. It’s a Trout Unlimited 50th Anniversary Special Edition. These rods are supposed to be fast and powerful. The rod comes with a free trial Trout Unlimited membership, and I’ll send the warranty card with the rod as well. You’ll need to talk with Winston about the warranty as it says it’s only good for the original owner. I never filled out the card and never used the rod, so I’m sure they’d probably work with you there, but I can’t promise anything. If anyone has experience with Winston on this, please let us know in the comments.
When the rod came into my possession, I immediately decided to sell it without casting it. I didn’t want to like it. The thing is, a rod like this is so far above all my other equipment that it sort of freaks me out. Even my bamboo rods are so-called “blue collar cane.” Every rod like this Winston that I’ve seen on ebay has gone for $600 or better. It retails for $675. Remember, on Friday morning the price goes down to $300!
Please see the TVangler Classifieds Page for the ground rules – at least the ones that I’m not breaking myself.
Take care,
Nathan

As promised, the price is now $300!
Take care,
